Winter Newsletter
Welcome to the ForData Winter Newsletter.
Our newsletter is full of information that is hopefully of use to all our customers and friends - covering a variety of areas. This newsletter sees the end of 2011 approaching, and therefore is a great way for us to say a huge thank you to all our customers for your business this year, and is obviously a great way to fill you in on all the stuff going on at ForData Towers.
Apple Certified Technical Coordinator: OS X 10.7 (Lion)
First up, we are very proud to announce that Martin Ford has become an "Apple Certified Technical Coordinator" in the OS X Lion operating system. To pass this Martin's had to sit two exams; one as a specialist in supporting any Mac running OS X Lion, and the second to become a specialist in their server systems.
At the time of writing, there are only 14 people in the U.K. that are listed on Apple's website as having this accreditation - if you pop over to the Apple Certified Professionals Registry you can make sure that the company supporting your system (if that isn't ForData, as it clearly SHOULD be!!) are actually qualified to do so!!
Harsh Light of Day
One of our members of staff has a far more interesting 'other' life - as well as being an outstanding engineer, Tim Henley is an actor, and has appeared in many programs you will no doubt have seen.

On Friday 13 April 2012 his first full movie "The Harsh Light of Day" goes on release at selected cinemas around the country. This isn't for the faint of heart mind you - it's release on Friday 13th is NOT a co-incidence!!
If you feel up to it - go here to see the Harsh Light of Day web site and official trailer - ForData Ltd and it's associates take no responsibility for nightmares, seizures, heart attacks or any other madical impairment, no matter how severe, that may affect you as a result of visiting this site!!!!

Focus on: Zest Concierge
As a business, we like to support local businesses that we really feel are making a difference out there - and so we decided to start a regular feature of "Focus On"…. It's simply a way of saying that we know the company in question, and we really feel they offer great value, professionalism, and care in everything they do.
So our inaugural "Focus On" spot goes to:

Zest Concierge, Bath's leading concierge service.
What do we do? We simply get stuff done. We offer support to business and individuals when you need it, by the hour, by the day or as long as the project takes.
We specialises in giving people the gift of time by taking care of the jobs you don't have time for, or simply just don't want to do. Services include, Events & Project Management, PA Support and Market Research, as well as co-ordinating house moves and holidays, cleaning and personal shopping. In essence, if you are too busy to do something, Zest will take care of it.
We put the ZEST back into your life.

Tips & Tricks
In each Newsletter we'd like to give you an interesting snippet of info, be it on the Windows Platform, or Mac. Hopefully they'll be useful and informative, and will help you get just a little more from your system.
Windows 7 Tip
If you've got a file and want to do something to it, the "Send To" option may be
useful, but in our experience, is infrequently used.
A lot of people already know about it - you Right Click on the file in question, and then by selecting "Send To" you'll get a list of places to send it - email recipients, compressed files, documents folder, CD / DVD drive, and more (depending on the hardware / software in your system). However, the list still seems a little limiting. If you want more options, there is a bit of a hidden keystroke…
Before you right click on the item, press the shift key down, and hold it as you click…. Then when you point to "Send to" - you'll get FAR more options.
Mac OS X Lion Tip
No 'Save as' option....? What gives?
File versioning within Lion is great. Gone are the days of choosing to save multiple copies of files with different file names… just in case you want to go back to how it was a week ago. Now you simply do the usual CMD-S, or click file, save a version - every time you want to save your work.
If you decide you want to go back to an earlier time… Click "File, Revert Document" - and you are thrown into something resembling Time Machine, so you can scroll back through every version there is. It'll even load the time machine backups if they are available too.
